Did you know it was an Englishman – Christopher Merrett – who in 1662 first “discovered” sparkling wine, well before a revered monk in Champagne. Today, the whole concept of bubbes in a wine still makes an impact and creates a feel-good factor which cannot be beaten. A long standing tradition in The Old Bridge is the New Year Fizz night and what better excuse then to coincide it with Valentine’s Day weekend. Master of Wine, Nick Adams will host a relaxed and informal look, and taste, of a broad selection of sparkling wines, which will of course include Champagne, but equally showcase just how English sparkling wine has come on along with a look at high quality New World examples, the sparkling Rosé style of course, and finishing with twist to what the category can offer. Nick will explain the difference between Non-Vintage and Vintage, what is Blanc de Blancs, how is Rosé made and general anecdotes and “did you know” about sparkling wine
A 4 Course meal will accompany the selection, and we will, as ever, include a red wine offering with the main course!
